Tiger Woods makes progress at TPC Boston
It wasn’t anything crazy for Tiger Woods this week at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Not a victory, or a runner-up or even a top-10 finish. What it was was simply progress for the still number one golfer in the world.
On Monday, as Tiger was finishing up his final round 69, the first time all season he had shot three straight rounds in the 60s, his attitude assured us that, yes, Tiger will eventually be Tiger again.
He hit the ball long off the tee. He was finding greens in regulation on a more consistent basis. Even some of the putts he needed to drop were disappearing.
Sure, Tiger had a stretch during the third round where things didn’t quite go the way he thought they might, with two bogeys when he was just starting to make a move up the leaderboard, but his 10-under total for four days has him on to the next event with what looks like a more consistent golf swing.
What did this week tell us about Tiger’s golf game moving forward? It showed that yes, he will most likely be on the Ryder Cup team, because he is hitting stride at the right time, and yes, there is still a chance we could see Tiger sneak out of this season with a win in the next two events.
With four holes to play on Monday, Tiger was even par and not making up much ground. Then, he knocked out three birdies before departing Boston. That’s the Tiger we used to enjoy watching, right?
